DRIVER EDUCATION

P.E. 7 - The course offers the student instruction in individual skills in the following sports: football, soccer, basketball, softball, and track & field. This program emphasizes team sport skills and cardiovascular conditioning for the student. Prerequisite: Grade Seven standing (10 credits).

P.E. 8 - The course offers the student advanced individual skills instruction in a variety of team and individual sports. The program offers team sport competition and cardiovascular fitness activities. Prerequisite: Grade Eight standing (10 credits).

P.E. 9 - The course offers each student health education and a variety of sports and activities as well as physical fitness education. This program covers: health education, cardiovascular fitness, speed-conditioning, strength-training, flexibility-training, agility and a variety of team sports. Testing takes place both at the beginning and end of the program. Prerequisite: Freshman standing (10 credits).

P.E. 10 - The course provides health education and structured participation in sport activities in order to enhance skills learned in the previous course. Weight-training and physical conditioning activities that meet the needs of the sophomore are stressed utilizing the following programs: health education, cardiovascular fitness, speed-training, strength-training, flexibility-training, agility-training; testing for the above takes place both at the beginning and end of the program. Prerequisite: Sophomore standing (5 credits).

P.E. 10 (Optional) - The course is an optional program for those 10th grade students who have completed Driver Education. The course provides health education and structured participation in the sport activities in order to enhance skills learned in the previous course. Weight-training and physical conditioning activities to meet the needs of the sophomore are stressed utilizing the following programs: health education, cardiovascular fitness, speed-training, strength-training, flexibility-training, agility-training; testing for the above takes place both at the beginning and end of the program. Prerequisite: Sophomore standing, the student must possess a valid California Drivers Learners Permit or Drivers License. (2.5 credits).

ALTERNATIVE PHYSICAL EDUCATION - This course provides instruction for the student who has a long-term P. E. excuse due to medical reasons. This course makes possible for the student to obtain P. E. credit by reading about P. E. activities, sport articles and health issues. Written work on the readings will be evaluated by the P. E. instructor. Prerequisite: Long-term documented medical excuse. (2.5 - 5 credits).

DRIVER EDUCATION - This course covers the California handbook on safe-driving. Students successfully completing this course may obtain a learner's driving permit (2.5 credits).

HEALTH AND SAFETY - The basic course emphasis is instruction in sex and drug education, first-aid, and CPR. The students are also exposed to a variety of health topics including exercise, nutrition, personal care, energy systems, methods of strength-training, protection from disease and injuries, and how to properly use emergency procedures. Students study first-aid safety and units on the various forms of licit and illicit drugs. Required of all sophomores (2.5 credits).

ADVANCE PHYSICAL CONDITIONING - This course provides instruction and activities in weight-lifting, flexibility, and cardiovascular conditioning exercises. Individual and team sports activities are also included (5 credits).
