Palma High School would like to extend an invitation to your cross-country team for our Ninth Annual Chieftain Classic Cross Country Invitational to be held on Saturday, September 13, 2008 at Toro County Park (off Highway 68, 5 miles southwest of Salinas). This will be the same course layout for 2008 CCS Championships.
Course: (2008 CCS Championship Course) Approximately 3 miles of gently sloped dirt trails, flat grass lawns and two sets of hills. The course is ideal for spectators as it begins and finishes in the main wide open picnic area of the park. We will be running the CCS Championship Course. (click here for course map)
When: Saturday, September 13, 2008 (the course walks start at 8:00 am)

Awards: The first 20 runners in each race (medals) and the top (3) teams in each varsity race (plaque) and 1st place only in F/S and JV races.
Entries: We must have team rosters (first and last names, gender and grade), preferably with your entry rosters faxed or e-mailed by Saturday, September 6th (After that date teams will be charged a $50 late fee). This will allow us to assign numbers to each runner, post race day results and mail final results the next week. A short coaches meeting will be at 8:45 am for course information and final changes (limited). It would be very helpful if you use the Excel entry form and email it back. The Excel entry form eases the process for the computer set up.
Fees: $50 per team or $10 per individual. $20 minimum and $150 maximum. Please make checks payable to: Palma High School. No refunds.
Deadline: Please have entries (team rosters and checks) postmarked by Saturday, September 6th.
Late Entries (very limited): Any late entries (after Saturday September 6th) must have the team rosters faxed (831-422-5065) or emailed to us no later than Wednesday September 10th. Late entry fee is $50.
Facilities: The park gates do not open until 8 am.($6 park admission per vehicle) There are plenty of shaded picnic and barbecue areas, lavatories, phones and water, but no dressing rooms. Snacks will be available for purchase at the meet.
Driving Directions:
Coming from the North (San Jose):
Take 101 South to Salinas and get off at the Laurel Exit. Take a right hand turn and get into the left turn lane. Go left on to Davis Rd. and continue on Davis to Blanco (about a 1 mile over the bridge and first stop light after bridge). Turn left on to Blanco and go approximately one 1/2 miles to Main Street (Shell Station on right). Go right on Main St. also known as Hwy. 68. Stay on Hwy 68 for about 5 miles and exit at Portola. Go right at the stop sign and under the bridge and it takes you into Toro Park.
Take Hwy. 68 east exit at Portola. Go right at the stop sign into Toro Park.
Take 101 North to Abbott St. (a left exit). Take Abbott to Blanco and turn left (Denny's is on the corner). Continue on Blanco to Main St. or Hwy 68. Turn left on to Hwy 68 (Star Market on the corner). Stay on Hwy 68 for about 5 miles and exit at Portola. Go right at the stop sign and under the bridge and it takes you into Toro Park.
