TCAL Jamboree: It was a good workout.

Early Bird: PR's turned in by just about everyone. It was a great meet and a great day. Chris D'Arrigo ran to a 16th place finish in the Sophomore Race. The Junior Team of Tyre, Alex, Greg, Brandon, Jack and Cy ran to a forth place finish. Tyre Johnson started his season with a school record runof 15:37. It was the best time the day and the 14th fastest time ever run at Toro Park. We will probably hear a lot of stories like this about him in the future. The Team overall ran to a 14th place finish out of 52 teams competing.

Chieftain Invite: In the F/S race Chris D'Arrigo finished first, Ethan Shaw finished 16th, and Miguel Soria finished 19th to lead the team to a 4th place finish. Corin hamilton finished 6th in the JV race. Tyre Johnson finidhed 2nd in the Varsity race and the team finished 5th.

Aliasl Duel: The Varsity won 20 - 39. Diego from Alisal ran a 15:21, the sixth fastest time ever and Tyre helped to pace the rest of the team. The JV lost because of having and incomplete team and The Frosh/Soph won because Alisal did not have a complete team. Fine performances were turned in by Ethan Shaw and Colin Spenser who ran PR's. Records Varsity 1-0, JV 0-1 and F/S 1-0.

North Salinas - Alvarez - Hollister Quad Meet - The Varsity team could not pull off the win but he team finished 2 and 1 for the day. Tyre Johnson won the race and Greg Johnson and Alex Wutke put in fine performances. Team scores were Palma 17 - Alvarez 46, Palma 17 - North Salinas 47 and Hollister 25 - Palma 32. Stanford Invite - It is always geat to run on a course that feels like carpet under your feet. Tyre continues to shine finishing 2nd in the race and the team finished 7th overall with 26 teams entered.

Salinas City Meet - The Chieftains could not hold on to the trophy this year. The Salinas Cowboys swept all divisions and Palma was second most of the day. Tyre Johnson finished second in the Varsity race with Chris, Greg, Alex and Brandon all finishing in the top 13. Score was Salinas 27 and Palma 47. Corin Hamilton finished 4th in the JV race and pulled in a medal. The JV team finished 3rd behind Salinas and Alisal. In the F/S race Miguel Soria and Ethan Shaw were medal winner finishing 4th and 6th in the race. The team finished second behind Salinas 23 to 53.

Clovis Invite - This was not to be Matt Huntington's weekend, but the rest of the team performed very well and give very good hope for the future. The team shortened with Matt spraining his alkle in warm-ups and Greg Johnson nursing a sore ankle too. The real bright spot of the day was Tyre's first place finish in the race and the tight grouping of Alex, Chris and Brandon in the race with Jack stepping it up as the 5th man. Miguel did a great job filling in for his injured comrades and finished as the 9th freshmen in the race. The team finished 10th out of 34 teams in this elite field.

Gilroy - Palma was swept.  Losing to Gilroy in all divisions. The Varsity was missing two runners and lost to Gilroy 28-27.  The JV team ran incomplete and the Frosh/Soph team lost 42-19.  Good performances were turned in by Colin Hamilton, Kent Majewski, and Colin Spenser who all ran PR's.  Varsity is 3-2, JV is 2-3, and the F/S is 4-1.

Crystal Springs Invite - The Varsity team had the day off to rest.  Tyre was the only Palma representative in the Sweepstakes race.  Tyre finished 2nd to Diego Estrada.  His time was 15:08.  It is the best time ever run by a Palma athlete at Crystal.  The Frosh/Soph team lead by great performances by Miguel Soria, Joey Alarid, and JD Morris finished 6th overall out of 20 teams.

Salinas Duel - Salinas ran a clean sweep on us today, but that is not to mean we are out of it all together.  The varsity team did group together very well and without Greg Johnson in the mix they show us coaches some real hope here.  Cy Gollnick, JD Morris and Colin Spenser ran personal bests on the Toro course.  The Varsity score was 33 - 23.  JV team was incomplete.  Frosh Soph score was 39 - 20.  League records Varstiy 3-3, JV 2 -4 and F/S is 4-2.

Monterey Bay Invite - It was a great day for running, with the sun shining and in he lower 60's.  The Frosh/Soph team was lead by 1st place finisher Chris D'Arrigo and medal winners Miguel Soria and Joey Alarid.  The team finished third overall in the race.  In the varsity race, we were running tired and without Alex Wutke.  The team still finished 4th overall and Tyre Johnson finished second in a time of 15:27.  Other medal winners were Brandon Kurschill, Greg Johnson and Jack Kurzava.  We are looking good to finish off the season well.  With a little rest this week we will make our run for the title.

TCAL Championships - Frosh/Soph and Varsity teams both finished 3rd.  The Frosh/Soph team was lead by Miguel Soria who finished third in the race and great performances where turned in by Robbie, JD and Kent who ran PR's and strong performances where put in by Ethan, Colin and Matt.  The Varsity team was lead by 2nd place finisher Tyre and PR's by Alex and Brandon and strong performances by Greg and Jack.  We will now get ready to defend the CCS title up at Crystal Springs.

CCS Championships - Well the rain held off and the meet was a great success.  The Team finished 2nd in the race to King City and made it to the state meet for the second year in a row. Tyre lead the race from start to finish winning the race by more the 40 seconds.  His time was the third fastest of the day.  Great preformances were turned in by the whole team.  Alex Wutke finish 7th and joined Tyre on the all CCS team for Division 4.  Greg Johnson finished 15th and broke the 17 minute barrier.  Brandon ran his personal best time.  Chris guttted out a cold and finished the race strong to help us make it to the state meet.  Miguel keeps on getting better with every race he runs, bettering his best time by more than 30 seconds.  Matt's leadership carried us through to the next stage. Overall the team finished 22nd in all of CCS from the results of this meet. Next stop Woodward Park, Fresno.

State Championships - It was an unusually warm day in Fresno and we were the last race of the day.  Our own Tyre Johnson came in second in the Division IV race and 18th overall for the day.  He ran the fastest time ever run by a Palma runner at the State meet.  The team also ran extremely well finishing 14th.  Only thirteen seconds separated Alex, Greg, Chris and Brandon.  The coaches were very pleased with the results and hoping that this is just a stepping stone for much more success next year.  Six of the the runners will return next season.  Congratulations for a fine season and a job well done.  Many people still stayed around for the race to watch German Hernandez break the course record, running 14:24.
