Practice Meet with Monterey at Monterey: Team got out to a great start on a beautiful day in Don Davi Park. The course was 2.6 miles in length and the gap between our first 5 runners is under one minute. Scott Edwards put on a strong finish to pass a Monterey runner to take first in the veterans race and Chris Sandoval worked the second half of the course to cruise to a fist place finish in the newbie race.

TCAL Center Meet: The JV and Frosh/Soph teams did very well in there runs capturing first place in the combined race. The Varsity did not fare as well. They ended up second in the non-scoring meet, but Live Oak and Salinas were very close behind. It was a good indicator on how the rest of the season will shape up.

Earlybird Invite at NMC: Steve Otero, Max Cuevas, Scott Edwards and the rest of the senior team did very well. Steve and Scott both metaled in their races and the Seniors finished 6th out of 40+ teams.

Live Oak / San Benito / Sobrato league meet: Meet was in Hollister at Park Hill. It was the first time we have been there in 5 years. There were a few course changes since the past time we ran there and finding the course was another challenge. The varsity team did not fair to well losing to San Benito and Live Oak mainly due to unfamiliarity with the course. But the JV and Frosh/Soph teams both cleaned up the competition. Varsity 0 - 2, JV 2 - 0 and Frosh/Soph 3 - 0.

Chieftain Invite: It was a great day at Toro Park and all the teams and runners turned in stellar times. The Frosh/Soph team finished in 6th place, the JV team finished in 5th place and the Varsity team finished 4th. It was the best showing by a Palma team in years and the best times turned in by a varsity team since Mr. Friedley took over the team. It's looking pretty well right now for Palma.

Stanford Invite: JV team lead by the 10th place finish of Steve Otero finished 3rd out of 28 teams in the race. Varsity was lead by Robert Maher's 13th place finish and the team finished 8th overall and third out of the CCS teams.

Gilroy Duel: Another new course to add to our list, but this time we meet with better fate. All three teams won their races with Scott Edwards leading the Varsity to a 20 - 39 victory, Garrett DeWitt pulling off a great finish to lead the JV to a 15 - 48 win and the Max Cuevas leading to uncontested Frosh/Soph to victory. Varisity is 1 - 2, JV is 3 - 0 and Frosh/Soph is 4 - 0.

Half Moon Bay Invite - A relarively cool day at the bay did not stop the hot running Chieftains from turning in yet another find performance. The Varsity team finished second, the JV finish 5th, the Freshmen finished 9th and the Frosh/Soph finished 12th as teams. There were individual medal winners: Robert Maher and Scott Edwards in the varsity race, Larry Lom finished 3rd in the JV race, Steve Otero in the Frosh/Soph race and Chris Sandoval and Matt Nervino in the Freshmen race. Great job and hopefully we can ride the wave into the City Meet.

Salinas City Meet - It was a triumphant day. The running Chieftains came away with a clean sweep of all the titles. It was the first time since 1999 that we have won the race. The Varsity was lead by the mighty seniors this year of Robert Maher, Scott Edwards, Ross Ostarello, Larry Lom, Michael Lom and Sam Lom. Medal winners in the Varsity race were Scott Edwards 3rd, Robert Maher 4th and Julian Maher 6th, in the JV race Steve Otero 1st, Liam Rose 4th, Garrett DeWitt 5th and John Bergez 7th and in the Frosh/Soph race freshmen Chris Sandoval 2nd, Max Cuevas 5th and Matt Nervino 6th. Great job Chieftains.

Clovis Invitational - The meet was held at the state meet course in Fresno. The course is 3.1 miles and the times werre all better than what we ran at Toro. The Varsity team finished 6th and the Frosh/Soph team finished 12th. It was a great tune-up for our possible return for the stae meet in November. The best part was teh camping.

Salinas Duel - The curse of the day off did it to us again this year. The team was flat and the Varsity lost to Salinas 29 - 26. The only team that faired well was the JV team which won 26 - 31. The Frosh/Soph also lost for the first time this season 32- 24. Team records are: Varsity 1 - 3, JV 4 - 0 and Frosh/Soph 4 - 1. We will be back in the groove for leagues.

North Salinas Duel - We got all our races in right before the MTAL Center Meet. All boys ran together on one race. Great times were turned in by all and it looks like we are peaking at the right time. Varsity won 17 - 43, JV won 15 - 50 and F/S lost 33 - 22. This brings our records to 2 - 3 Varsity, 5 - 0 JV and 4 - 2 F/S.

TCAL Championships - We had just had great day for running. Our teams did a great job also. The Varsity ran a team average of 16:57 and finished second in the league. The team was lead by All League finishers Robert Maher 3rd place and Scott Edwards 7th place finish. Roberts time places him as the best time run by a Palma athlete on Toro's course. The Junior Varsity came into the meet undefeated and finished the race undefeated. The team was lead by Liam Rose (3rd), Garrett DeWitt(4th), Steve Otero, Alfredo Lopez and John Bergez. The Frosh/Soph team came finished second in the league lead by Chris Sandoval (2nd). Great job guys for the fine season and good luck at CCS.

CCS Championships - It was a great day to run weatherwise but not Chieftainwise. The men give it there best efffort but came up one place short. Scott Edwards lead the pack with a 9th place finish at 16:33 and a birth into the State Championships in Fresno. It was a unfitting end to such a great season. Congratulations to all for such a fine season.

State Championships - It was a rainy day in Fresno and a very muddy course. Scoot did not turn out to be to great a mudder as he plodded his way to a 48th place finish in a time of 17:05. Great season Scott and congratulations for s fine season.

Current Rankings: Chieftains are ranked 2nd in CCS Division 4, 12th in CCS and 8th in State Division 4. (as of 10/20/04)
