Practice Meet with Monterey at Toro: Very young team this year. Losing 12 senior last year puts us in a rebuilding year. The team as a whole ran well but there is still much room for improvment. Juniors Steve Otero and Liam Rose lead the way for the Chieftains.

TCAL Jamboree at Toro: Weather was cool and runnig was great. Good times were turned in by everyone. Great preformances were turned in by Chris Sandoval, Jorge Bravo and Zach Moses. This was a pre-season meet and no team scores were kept.

Duel versus Gilroy: The team ran very well with the lead pack only 29 seconds apart, but they were not fast enough to beat Gilroy the most improved team in hte league. Varsity lost Gilroy17 - Palma 39. The JV meet a similar fate, dispite fine performances by Robert Belinger, Garcia brothers and Josh Thomas. JV lost Palma 31 and Gilroy 24. The Frosh/Soph won lead by stron performances by freshment Jak Kurzava and Zach Moses. Palma 24 and Gilroy 31. Just about everyones time has improved from the last outing.

Chieftain Classic Invite: 23 teams ran at the meet this year with over 500 athletes competing. It was a great day with the sun shining all day. Click to view results.

Standord Invite: The JV team was lead by Emmanual Garcia and Josh Thomas to a 6th place finish out of 40 teams. The Varsity was lead by Chris "Screach" Sandoval and finished 11th (3rd out of all CCS teams competing) in the team competition out of 27 teams.

Salinas High Duel: This year things worked out the opposite way. We ran well when we needed to run well. The Varstity team ran as a team and defeated the Cowboys soundly at Toro by a score of 19 - 37. Varstiy league record is 1 - 1. The JV team followed suit of the varsity. Lead by Chris Castillo, Manuel Garcia and Josh Thomas the JV team won 26 - 29 over Salinas making thier league record 1 - 1. The Frosh/Soph did not fare as well. The team was lead by 3rd place finisher Jack Kurzava. The team lost 41 - 18. Frosh/Soph league record is 1 - 1.

Salinas City Scrimmage - We gave it our best shot and came up a little short at the varsity level. The Varsity finished second behind Alisal with Julian Maher finishing 4th in the race. On the JV level we were a little flat. The team was lead by 1st Place finisher Steve Otero but it was not enough the team finished 3rd over all. The Frosh/Soph team lead by medal winners Matt Nervino 1st, Jorge Bravo 5th, Jack Kurzava 6th and Danny Cavero 7th were the city champions.

Serra Invite at Crystal Springs - In a surprise of all surprises the varsity team won thier race. They were lead by Liam Rose, Ross Majewski and Steve Otero and I thought that we could have run much better than we did. The JV team finished 6th, Sophomore team was 13th, and the Freshmen were 15th out of 30+ teams in the meet. Fine performances were turned in by Matt Nervino, Max Cuevas, Josh Thomas, and Jorge Bravo.

Duel versus North Salinas - Another meet at the friendly confines of Toro Park this time hosted by North Salinas. Laim Rose put on a stellar display finishing first in the varsity race. The varsity team defeated North High 20 - 38 and runs its record to 2 - 1. The JV team was lead by an outstanding performance by Demetric Olivares runing his best time of the season. The JV team won by a acore of 16 - 46 and runs it league record to 2 - 1. The Frosh/Soph team lead by Matt Nervino and Max Cuevas defeated North High also by a score of 20 - 35. They came close to defeating our JV team too. Their record is now 2 - 1.

Cal Poly Invite - The running Chieftains varsity team finished first for the second week in a row. The team was lead again by 5th place finisher Liam Rose. It was a great team effort with Julian Maher finishing 11th, Ross Majewski 13th, Steve Otero 14th and Matt Nervino 16th. The JV team made a good showing finishing 5th in the race out of 30+ teams. The team was lead by Manuel Garcia, Josh Thomas, Chris Castillo, who is starting to come into his own lately, Demetric Olivares and Jack Kurzava. The JV race was only 2.5 miles so that is why the times above look fast.

Triple Duel at Live Oak - Well if you are running at Live Oak's course it must be one of th hottest days of the season and it was just that. The Varsity team looked like they were running tired. As a result the Varsity lost to both Hollister 40 - 17 and Live Oak 30 - 25 but defeated Sobrato 17 - 40 bringing thier record in league to 3 - 3. The JV team marched on defeating all three teams, Hollister 27- 29, Live Oak 20 - 40 and Sobrato 15 - 45. The JV league record is 5 - 1. The Frosh/Soph defeated Live Oak and Sobrato by the score of 15 - 45 and lost to Hollister 44 - 16.Their league record ends up to be 4 - 2. We have just under two weeks before championships. Plenty of time to rest and recoop.

TCAL Championships - The Varsity team give it its all and came up just short. One of the finest team performances this year by all runners. The Varsity team had 6 go under 18 minutes and the team gap was 36 seconds. The team finished in third place behind Hollister and Gilroy and Julian Maher took home an all-league honors by finishing 7th in the race in a time of 17:03. Great job Julian, Chris, Liam, Ross, Matt, Steve and Max. Go luck at CCS. In the Frosh/Soph race the team finished 2nd to Hollister with fine performances turned in by Jorge Bravo 7th, Danny Cavero 8th , Jack Kurzava 9th and Zach Moses 11th. The JV team was missing two of its better runners and it showed. The team finished 4th in the league lead by Manuel Garcia's 6th place finish. Just about every runner ran PR's for the season. Great job Chieftains.

CCS Championships - Team finished 5th in Division IV and 25th overall. This is the third year in a row that we are on the cusp. Team was lead by Chris Sandoval 13th and Julian Maher 19th. It was a great year nad hopes are high for next year. Way to go Chieftains.
