DESCRIPTION
OF COURSES
- ALGEBRA I REVIEW
- Reviews numbers and basic arithmetic
operations applied to them, and proceeds through solving systems
of equations and inequalities polynomials, algebraic fractions by
applying various algebraic axioms, concepts and methods. For
students who have failed or did poorly in Algebra I during the
past year or those who wish to improve their math skills before
entering school for the Fall. (5 HS or Jr. HS credits)

- ALGEBRA I HONORS
- Intensive study of the principles of plane
Algebra 1. Reviews numbers and basic arithmetic operations applied
to them and proceeds through solving systems of equations and
inequalities, polynomials, algebraic fractions by applying various
algebraic axioms, concepts and methods. For students who advance
through first year algebra in the summer. (10 HS of Jr. HS
credits)

- ALGEBRA II REVIEW
- This course is designed to review the major
topics of Algebra II. The topics covered are: open sentences in
one variable, system of linear equations, factors and operations
with polynomials are given special attention. The new concepts are
irrational and complex numbers, rational exponents and logarithms.
For students who have failed or did poorly in Algebra II during
the past year or those who wish to improve their math skills
before entering school for the Fall. (5HS credits)

- AMERICAN HISTORY
- Intensive study of American history from
discovery to the present. Primarily designed for Palma students
who have failed or received a low grade in American History 7 or
those who wish to improve their skills before entering school for
the Fall. (5 HS or Jr. HS credits)

- BASIC ENGLISH COMPOSITION (9th -10th
Grade)
- Intensive review of college preparatory
high school freshman and sophomore English composition. Primarily
designed for Palma students who have failed or received a low
grade in English I or English II or those who wish to improve
their skills before entering school for the Fall. (5 HS
credits)

- CHEMISTRY (10th - 12th
grades)
- This course provides a full year course in
high school lab science in Chemistry. Course meets Palma
requirement for physical science. Prerequisite: completed Algebra
II. (12 HS credits)

- DRIVER EDUCATION AND
TRAINING
- This course includes class room instruction
and driver training on the road. The driving will be done outside
of the classroom hours. The course does include the award of the
DMV forms required to obtain a California State Learners Permit.
All students must be at least 15 years old by June 9th to enroll.

- ENRICHMENT CLASSES
- (Note: semester credits towards graduation
not earned in these classes.) Courses in Beginning Greek
and Latin are designed to prepare students for further
study in either language. Computers will train students in
the use of popular programs, including Word, Excel, Power Point
and iMovie. Baseball/PE will be offered in the afternoon,
to accommodate those with morning classes.

- FRESHMEN/SOPHOMORE ENGLISH REVIEW
(ENGLISH I AND II)
- Intensive review of college preparatory
freshmen and sophomore English composition and literature.
Designed for Palma students who have failed to received a low
grade in English I or II or those who wish to improve their skills
before entering school for the Fall. (5 HS
credits)
GENERAL MATH (JUNIOR HIGH)
- An intensive course to review the
principles of general math covered in the seventh and eighth grade
level at Palma Junior High. Primarily designed for Palma Junior
High students that have failed or received a low grade in general
math or those who wish to improve their math skills before
entering school for the Fall. (5 Jr. HS credits)

- GEOMETRY REVIEW
- An intensive course to review the
principles of Geometry covered at Palma. Primarily designed for
Palma students who have failed or received a low grade in Geometry
or those who wish to improve their math skills before entering
school for the Fall. (5 HS or Jr. HS credits)

- GEOMETRY(H) and GEOMETRY
REVIEW
- An intensive course to present or review
the principles of Geometry covered a Palma. Honors course
primarily designed for Palma Students who wish to advance to
Algebra II during the coming school year. Review course intended
for students needing to make up for failing or low grade in
Geometry or those who wish to improve their math skills before
entering school for the Fall. (10 HS credits)

- INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTERS
- The course is designed to
teach all students the basic skills and terminology associated
with the operation of the Macintosh computer and peripherals in
the Palma Computer Learning Center. Special emphasis will be
placed on the learning of keyboarding, word processing,
introduction to multimedia, publishing a web page, email and
Internet navigation skills in order to facilitate students'
utilization of the computer lab during their years at Palma. (5 HS
credits).

- JUNIOR / SENIOR ENGLISH REVIEW (11th
-12th Grade)
- Intensive study of Junior and Senior level
of English and further development of composition skills.
Primarily designed for Palma students who have failed or received
and low grade in English III or English IV or those who wish to
improve their math skills before entering school for the Fall. (5
HS credits)

- JHS ENGLISH/LITERATURE REVIEW
(JUNIOR HIGH)
- An intensive course to review the
principles of English grammar and literature covered in the
seventh and eighth grade level at Palma Junior High. Primarily
designed for Palma Junior High students who have failed or
received a low grade in English or those who wish to improve their
skills before entering school for the Fall. (5 Jr. HS
credits)

- PRE-ALGEBRA
- An intensive course to review the
principles of pre-algebra covered at Palma. Primarily designed for
Palma students who have failed or received a low grade in
Pre-Algebra or those who wish to improve their math skills before
entering school for the Fall. (5 HS or Jr. HS credits)

- RELIGIOUS STUDIES
- Independent study by contract. To make up
Religious course or credit shortages in required subjects.
Enrollment is restricted to Palma students. The students will meet
once each week, by appointment, with the instructor. (5 HS or Jr.
HS credits)

High)
- An intensive course to review the
principles of general science covered in the seventh and eighth

- SPANISH 1 OR 2 REVIEW
- An intensive course to review the
principles of college preparatory Spanish I and II covered at
Palma. Primarily designed for Palma students who have failed or
received a low grade in Spanish 1 or those who wish to improve
their skills before entering school for the Fall. (5 HS
credits)

- SPANISH 3 (HONORS)
- An intensive course in the third year of
college preparatory Spanish. Primarily designed for Palma students
who wish to complete Spanish 3(Honors). Students will meet four
hours each day for six weeks. Prerequisite: Spanish 1 and 2 with C
or better grade. (10 HS credits)

- SPANISH 3 REVIEW
- An intensive course to review the
principles of college preparatory Spanish III covered at Palma.
Primarily designed for Palma students who have failed or received
a low grade in Spanish III or those who wish to improve their
skills before entering school for the Fall. Meets for 4 hours a
day over three weeks. (5 HS credits)

- WORLD HISTORY REVIEW
- Intensive study of world history from
prehistory to the present age. Primarily designed for Palma
students who have failed or received a low
grade in World History or those who wish to improve their skills
before entering school for the Fall. (5 HS credits)

CONDUCT:
For boys the regular Palma dress and hair code
will be enforced. Boys may not wear earrings. Dress shorts in good
taste may be worn. For girls, clothing in good taste is expected.
"Good Taste" includes the following: no holes in pants or jeans; no
bear midriffs; no flip-flops. Radio/Tape Players/MP3 Players may not
be used on campus (including the parking lot). Tardy arrivals are
unacceptable. Regular attendance is required. Three or more
absences or several tardies will result in reduced credit hours.
Exception: students who must miss the first week of Summer School
because they are completing the regular school year will be able to
complete the Summer School Program. Refunds will not be made to
students asked to withdraw or who fail to attend the Summer School
Program.
