Palma Technology Plan

I.) MISSION STATEMENT AND OBJECTIVES

Palma is dedicated to providing young men an excellent college preparatory education in a Roman Catholic environment that embraces the Essential Elements of a Christian Brothers Education and challenges each individual to develop spiritually, intellectually, morally, physically and socially (ESRL's).

The school environment will assist the student:

  1. In developing a well-formed mind which will ask questions, adjust to change, seek solutions in a disciplined and organized manner;
  2. In acquiring a common store of secular knowledge expected of secondary school graduates;
  3. In giving them an opportunity to learn and master basic skills in critical thinking, communications and problem solving by offering a core curriculum;
  4. In providing a quality library, state-of-the-art computer facilities and labs; and
  5. In developing a continuing appreciation of society and the vocational world.

II.) TECHNOLOGY STRATEGIC PLAN

The technology plan for Palma High School is to meet the following objectives; each objective has a set of criteria established for the definition and measurement of successful implementation:

  1. To upgrade wiring and hardware standards within the School;
  2. To install a technology environment that will offer compatible connection with new technology making all designated resources available to students within the school setting and where appropriate beyond our physical facility;
  3. To expand resources through new technologies as they become available and establish manageable methods of use and access;
  4. To align planning for the future with Library, Computer Resource Center and other individual departments and all curriculum areas; and
  5. To increase efficiency and productivity of teachers, staff, students and parents in the uses of technologies, as well as by offering connections to resources beyond the school.

III.) PLAN JUSTIFICATION

In order to maintain a competent environment for staff and students in an educational setting and to continue to provide a high standard of service, Palma must offer a wide range of electronic services to supplement the traditional print services and classroom teaching that is currently being offered. This plan presents the current and planned hardware, software telecommunications and training necessary to deliver these services. Palma does this by:

  1. Maintaining a Technology Committee consisting of faculty members whose job it is to update the technology plan and other technological policies; work at training the faculty in keeping up with the changing technological environments that are implemented; talk to faculty, staff, administration and parents to solicit and access information as how best to serve their needs and to revise the five year technology needs plan.
  2. Palma provides in-house and outsourced workshops for faculty, staff and administration in technology training.
  3. Data is received from the following sources: (1) yearly technology survey of administrators, teachers and staff, (2) yearly soliciting of all academic departments and administration. This data is used to make mid-course changes in technology plan.
