This law was made because of the extreme over-population in China. It has helped China keep itТs population in control, but it has also created conflict between the people and the government. The topic I picked was the Chinese law that subjected women to only have one child. I had never really heard of anything before of this nature. A woman that has to obey a law that not only takes away her rights, but also letting the chance of life being created crushed? What kind of Right is that? Not only does in put women down, but it also puts the children down the same. How does it put children down? Because the children donТt get to have a chance to be alive. This even puts the government down because it shows that it probably wasnТt the best resolution to solve the problem. There had to have been many other ways to solve the problem besides forcing the One child policy. But what other decisions? That is the hardest question. If for some reason a Chinese family has another child, that child will have no education, no contacts with doctors or medical resources, and will literally be a nobody, a person with no purpose or use, just a lifeless mannequin. That boy/girl will be considered useless, when the child could possibly be the person to solve cancer. Which brings up the reason that the Chinese who accidentally have a second child usually leave them alone on the streets, or even neglect their own child, something a parent for instance, in America, would never do. Also, A lot of Chinese families migrate to have more children, but most technically are living illegally in different residences, which shows the system is breaking down, and actually creating more problems. Sometimes, instead of having the second child, they have what is much worse. An abortion. To me, having an abortion is literally killing life, and the Chinese government is pretty much enforcing that on the Chinese people. What they are doing is stopping life from happening, which is pretty sickening to me. Here in America, you can have as many children as you want. We always complain about our brothers and sisters, but we never notice or think about how life will be without them around. Imagine being in China, not knowing why you canТt have brothers or sisters, while seeing T.V. shows about family. But, you have to see why they are having the abortion. Is it because they cannot afford to have the child, and donТt want him/her to have a horrible, painful life? Or is it because they want to avoid the fine, and kill a child instead? Either way, this very depressing situation happening in China. Since the Chinese government was worried that with modern technology, Chinese men and women could find out the sex of a fetus, (so the female birth rate would drop lower) they banned the practice. Now, they are even taking education from the Chinese! Again, the government does something that is unessecary and unbelievable. The one thing they shouldnТt take away is education, when they have already taken away their rights, their freedom, any many other things. Not only does this affect the Chinese people mentally, but also it is very possible that it can affect them physically because they cannot support themselves with one child. What I mean by this is that when the child gets older and gets a job, he would most likely support his parentТs. When I said that this could affect them physically, I meant that if a family is very poor, (which there are many, IТm sure) they could suffer from hunger, (Because they cannot afford to buy food) disease, (Because they cannot afford to go to a doctor, or get medical supplies) or many other things, including financial issues. Also, since it is so easy to get around the Chinese One Child policy, stated by Wang Guoqiang, director of the Policy Legislation Department at the State Family-Planning Commission in Beijing УEven if we wanted every family to have one child, it would be impossible.Ф The Chinese one child policy does not only make parents have unbelievably stressed decisions, but if they get caught by the government, things get way worse. What I mean by this is the huge fine that you will have to pay. For example, in Shanghai, the fine is three times the annual salary of the father and mother, which usually results in death. But, in other places, like Anhui for instance, you get actually in a way get around the law. The fine in Anhui is only four hundred dollars, and compared to the fine in Shanghai, this seems like an easier way to go. And since it is hard to obtain money in China, it is probably hard either way. This rule has also cost disdain for feminine infants including abortion, abandonment and even neglect. This is probably so because males can do work that includes labor, which is the easiest kind of job to get. Because of this, there is now an imbalance in the population. The girl to boy ratio is now one-hundred sixteen to one-hundred, and if this keeps going on, there will soon be so many males that it will be difficult to find a spouse and reproduce. If this does happen, (even though it has a low possibility of it happening) China could actually be worse off than they were before. Maybe, China will put the one child policy off and on to keep the population not to high nor to low. But, this would cause conflict, because the Chinese could have an upper hand saying that they need to make a definite decision. Since it is always best to show both sides, I guess it would be fair to show why the government is doing this. The government doesnТt do this just because it has power. ItТs because it tryТs to do itТs best for itТs people, even if they have to make dramatic decisions that lead to things like the one child policy. If the United States were in ChinaТs position at the moment, it would probably lead to something like this, or even the same thing. Just like China, the United States is responsible enough to take care In 1979, the government made this law because of the population issues. Chinas population was growing so quickly, that it was getting to be unsafe. This also led to famines, since there were so many people to feed. And if everyone couldnТt get fed, this would obviously be a bad situation. Also, there were more poor people in the streets, because it was getting harder to get a home. This overpopulation was becoming a complete disaster for not only people of China, but the environment too. Either way, the Chinese government had to take care of their people, even if it resulted to the Chinese one child policy. If the government didnТt act, China would be worse off in terms of over-population. Even if this policy clashes with a lot of different things, this policy has helped in a lot of different ways. It has helped stop over-population (for now), it has stopped younger people from having early marriage/sex, it has required schools to provide some education on sex, and prohibits discrimination against the maltreatment of women who give birth to female children and women who are infertile. But, just because it has done these things, it has also caused a lot of problems that can be huge in the future. This doesnТt mean that this policy is correct. Things that lead to abortions, neglect and abandonment are never correct in my opinion. As of the moment, Chinas population is still growing, but more slowly. The population is still at a high of 1,306,313,812 (one billion-three hundred six million- three hundred thirteen thousand Ц eight hundred twelve), but as I said, it is still much lower than it would be if the Chinese one child policy wouldnТt have taken place. The fertility rate is still at 1.72 children per women, which is not how it is supposed to be with the one child policy. The TFR [Total Fertility Rate] never fell below a 2.5 child-per woman average in rural areas, although it dropped to about 1.2 in urban areas. Also, out of one thousand female children born, twenty-seven point five children are killed by abortion, compared to the twenty-one point twenty one male children killed by abortion. Females also have a higher life expectancy rate than males, at seventy-four compared to seventy. The life expectancy has not really changed because the Chinese one child policy changed the population rates, not the life expectancy rates. Could this possibly be another reason why females are abandoned or killed more often? China is still trying to do itТs absolute best with the one child policy. Everyone in China, know that deep inside, the government is mainly doing the right thing, even though it goes against a lot of things people believe in. Maybe if people would give different suggestions to the government, the government could do something about it, and give people as much rights as possible. This would be a difficult task, but one day, China will come up with a better idea than the one child policy, even though it is the only choice at the moment.
