English 4 (H)

"Practice what you wish to become."

-Benjamin Franklin

SUMMER READING 2008

FRANKENSTEIN - By Mary Shelley  (A Gothic novel of scientific hubris.)  We will discuss Gothic literature, Romanticism, and Classical allusions.

AND

BRAVE NEW WORLD - By Aldous Huxley  (A prophetic novel making scientific and social predictions.)   Note especially elements of FABLE, SATIRE, and SYMBOLISM.

We will engage in several projects based on these books in the early days of the school year.  Be sure  to read carefully and make sure you have copies of the books to refer to in class.

I think you will enjoy these two books.
