BEGINNING GUITAR
This course is designed for high school students of any ability who
want to learn to play the guitar. Students will learn both the
instrumental side of guitar playing (melodies, solos, ensembles) and
the accompanying side (chords, singing, and playing). Right-hand
techniques will include playing with a flat pick (used in rock,
country, bluegrass, popular, folk, blues) and finger-style (used in
classical, folk, jazz, blues, popular, Latin-American, etc.).
Students will learn to play chords, solos, and play in positions
up the neck. Improvisation and song-writing techniques will also be
discussed. This course fulfills part of the California State University
fine arts requirement.
